Intercultural Management Summer School at RMUTP

From September 4th until September 17th, 2020, the Business Faculty and the International Business Department at Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon welcomed Prof. Dr. Rainer Wehner and Prof. Dr. Manfred Kiesel from the International Management Department of the University of Applied Science Wuerzburg-Schweinfurt (FHWS) together with 19 FHWS students to the second FHWS-RMUTP Intercultural Management Summer School.After two years of covid-19 travel restrictions, both parties were happy to meet again in Thailand for this special event. The Intercultural Management Summer School (IMSS) is a joint academic project of Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon (RMUTP) and the University of Applied Sciences Wuerzburg-Schweinfurt (FHWS). This unique event takes place in Thailand and gives students from the International Business department at RMUTP and FHWS the chance to study together and have intercultural experiences. Furthermore, the students can practice group work and get an inside view of applied international management practices. Accompanied is the summer school by lectures and everyday social events.Special events for the German guests were the cultural tour in Bangkok and the visit to the old Siamese capital Ayutthaya with Thai and Bhutanese students. Especially these joint activities allowed German students an even greater insight into Thai culture. Another highlight was the Thai boxing program. Thai Boxing, or Muay Thai, is Thailand’s national sport and cultural martial art. It was developed hundreds of years ago as a form of close combat that utilizes the entire body as a weapon.
The academic part of the Intercultural Management Summer School corresponded to the module ‘Business Management of the English taught Bachelor Programme International Management at FHWS. It reflected a complete module with 6 ECTS or three Thai graduate credits. The credits were fully transferable for Thai and FHWS students. In addition to the intercultural and academic part, students joined company visits and had discussions with professionals. These experiences allowed students to transfer theory into practice. As a special event, students had the chance to discover the famous Thai beaches on a field trip to the island Koh Samet. On Kho Samet, students had the unique opportunity to enjoy the relaxed beach life.
